Psychotherapy (Talk Therapy)
During psychotherapy, you have regular sessions with your therapist. Each session may last between thirty and sixty minutes, and occur once or twice a week. Psychotherapy usually runs ten to twenty weeks, sometimes longer, depending on your needs and what your family's health insurance allows. During your sessions, you talk with your therapist about your feelings, behaviors, and problems regarding relationships, mental health issues, or emotional issues.
At first, you may feel uncomfortable discussing your feelings. Give therapy some time. It may not be easy to talk about thoughts and feelings that you may have hidden. Psychotherapy can be intense. Sometimes, you may feel upset or even cry during or after sessions.
